Producing Countries


The evolution of tea, also known as Camellia Sinensis as its botanical name, goes way back to 2737 BC when a Chinese Emperor accidentally discovered it as a beverage that gave vigor of body, contentment and determination of purpose.

Today tea has emerged to be one of the most sought after beverages worldwide. There are more than 1,500 varieties of tea produced in more than 29 countries with the main producing countries found in Asia and Africa. Though there are many producers, the global supply is dominated by a few large producers mainly Sri Lanka, Kenya and India for black tea and China for green tea. The major producer countries are India, China, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Indonesia and Turkey. Smaller producers include Bangladesh, Taiwan, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Burundi, Cameron, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zaire, Zimbabwe, Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Australia and Papua New Guinea.
